About the Author
Robert Westheimer is a native Houstonian, an elder at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and the founder and chairman of Newspring LLC. Faith has proven to be a continuous influence in his life and his own spiritual adventure began in 2002, as he retired as a partner and practice director at Arthur Andersen & Co. after twenty eight years as a CPA and business consultant. Inspired by his spiritual undertakings, When God Calls is his debut publication and written as a companion guide for any adult on their pilgrimage. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin and competes in half-marathons.

Must Read for the Christian Non-Profit

Thank you, Robert for such a wonderful book! Having started a non-profit and living it for more than twenty years, I was not sure that this book would have any revelations for me. I was wrong. It spoke right to my heart with its prayers, scriptures and honesty. While reading it I was saying, YES, YES, YES! We lived each chapter during those years---the questioning, the doubts, the triumphs and the tears, each step drawing us closer to God. What an adventure!
This book will not only be enjoyed by those of us who have "been there, done that", but especially for those starting the journey with God and answering that Call that just will not let you go. It is also for those who have said Yes to the call and are experiencing the challenges that are sure to come. Robert's honesty and candor is so encouraging and real that the reader is sure to feel a kindred spirit in Robert. I liked to format and the
short, concise chapters. It is a book to be read slowly and reread often. It also makes a wonderful gift.

Robert Westheimer's book is packed with practical information about overcoming obstacles that stand between us and God's calling. He truly has a sense of the importance of answering God's call but also that the reality of answering is usually not an easy thing to do. The well-organized, repeating format of the book makes it easy to read and easy to refer back to points. My favorite part of the format has to be the short opening prayer of each chapter. These prayers capture Robert's personal struggle with answering God's call. The honesty and transparency of his prayers make his story so real, and I often found myself thinking, "I've felt that way, too!" Anyone dealing with stepping out in faith and doing God's work would find great comfort just reading through these prayers. His advice on how to deal with those real situations is usable and memorable. My favorite quote: "Don't be afraid to change course to allow your idea to morph into what the Father had in mind from the beginning." Such a powerful thought as we try to hang on to our own perception of God's plan for our life.
If you feel God calling you to something that seems overwhelming, this book will give you concise, practical steps to move forward and claim God's purpose for your life.

A Valuable Resource to the Spiritual Entrepreneur

I have known the author for 15+ years. He is a very successful businessman who has spent the last 12 years of his life starting and building several non-for-profit organizations. Along the way, he has discovered that he did not so much "strategically plan" to start a ministry as that he started doing something to meet an immediate need of some person or group and that a ministry evolved from his actions somewhere along the way. As in business, so in spiritual matters.
Mr. Westheimer truly is a serial entrepreneur who has distilled his life lessons into this 184 page book. It is an outstanding guide regarding how to determine (1) if you are being called by God to start something for the Kingdom and (2) if so, what to expect along the way and how to respond to both helps and impediments. The book skillfully integrates scripture, personal experience, and anecdotes to fashion a cogent road map to success as a spiritual entrepreneur.
