Can't wait for the next one

This is an excellent addition to the oracle series, if you have read them out of order as I have you will see the major foreshadowing brought out in these little episodes. These are nice little tidbits to show how their TV show goes though which is nice, seasons usually just don't have a finale episode. So far loving all these little stories, keep my mind preoccupied for the next main book too come out. I received this book for free from the author for a honest review.

Another great addition to the series!

Grave Messages 1x5 gives us the fifth episode in the Grave Messages TV show. In this episode we get a little more insight into the creepiness that has become Eva McRayne's life since becoming The Sibyl. She meets Stephen and Nancy Williams and attempts to help them through a marital dispute. Hopefully it isn't too late.
If you haven't read The Sibyl, you should start there. The entire series is excellent!

About the Author
Brian Tremain Gill is an international lawyer by trade, a former quasi diplomat by accident, and a writer by calling. His middle name comes from the children's book by Esther Forbes. He might have lived up to literary expectations sooner if not for a habit of venturing off to faraway lands-although consequently he would have fewer interesting tales to tell. In 1992, Brian spent the summer in Armenia, where he endured bombardments from neighboring Azerbaijan. Eight years later, he worked in Turkmenistan under constant surveillance. He, his wife, and their first son were in Kyrgyzstan during the coup of 2005, living within yards of a street beset by looters and arsonists. In 2008, his family, now with a second son, managed to be in the middle of both a shelling (Ashkelon, Israel) and war (Tbilisi, Georgia). Brian's professors had emphasized that international law may be practiced from the comfort of an air-conditioned office. Approximately once a month, he regrets not heeding their advice. The rest of the time he feels deeply enriched by his encounters and grateful to have emerged unscathed. Every day he hopes to put his experiences to positive use.

Creative, Intelligent, and Fun!

This book is the first in a series that shares the adventures of Kedra and Fruku, twins who live in the quiet community of Throgwottum Glen. The author created a fun new world with imaginative characters (like the two-headed GubuGar and the clumsy screechiwogs who fly backward). The characters were developed well and played humorous roles as the story developed. Their names even helped embody their personalities (for example, Druzina, the primadonna of the school). What I found most distinct about this book was the vocabulary. The author clearly has a large vocabulary and he used it to draw me into his new world. I appreciated the intelligence of the book and the little pokes he humorously made at some current cultural trends. I can see both adults and young people enjoying this book. I had fun watching the adventures of Kedra and Fruku unfold and look forward to reading about what happens next as the series continues.

Love this book!

I love epic tales and this story fits the bill. I have read this book with my children, ages 5 and 10, many times since we got it. The authors theatre background shows through as the flow of the book often reads like a play and it's easy to find yourself slipping into different characters and using different voices as you read the book aloud. This book has entertained our family for hours, with many hilarious antidotes leaving my kids laughing uncontrollably. It is brilliant, witty, and full of an old world charm. This book will be a family favorite for years to come.

I wondered if babies really do milk it, or whether parents just enjoy spoiling them.

With a daughter that was less than a year old at the time, I likened God’s love to the love I had for my daughter: unconditional. I reasoned that if God really does spoil baby Christians, then I would not miss out on this part of my journey— I was going to milk it through great expectation. And just like a doting parent establishing a relationship and fostering dependence, God held my hand and began walking me through this way of life.

The more I got to know Him, the more He became my master orchestrator. I remain amazed by His attention to detail and the way He weaves the lives of others into mine with such impeccable timing and harmony.

I realized that my journey as a baby Christian has been a journey of childlike faith. With every baby step I took in faith, God performed a very grown-up miracle. He never failed me in the tough times. What God did for me, He can do for you.

Freedom is what I felt the author generated with every revealing chapter...She dove right into her pain and let God free her from every hurt she has been through...how freeing is to not hold back and tell it all. This book is a wonderful story of growth and getting ones joy back, not giving up on your husband or wife and trusting God to be God no matter what season one is going through but knowing that whatever God has giving to one is theirs, no matter who tries to get in the way...for better or for worst but with God by her side her marriage went straight up to Great!!! what an inspiring book!

I was able to finish reading the book today. The compilation of short stories held my attention and I took my time enjoying each one. Congratulations to all the people who compiled this book. They truly have woven together some incredible tales that portray the people and culture of Appalachia. Some stories are reminiscent of the Twilight Zone while others recreate the landscape and tall tales of days gone by. I think every reader will enjoy the stories even if they have never set foot in the mountains of Appalachia.

West Virginia apparently has no shortest of myths and fantasies. Reading Mountain Mysts makes you want to visit the area and experience the tales first hand. Then you think twice, recalling what happened to some of those in the short stories allowing curiosity to get the better of them. Suppose sometimes it is best to live these adventures through the story tellers instead. My appetite hungers for more Appalachian lore. Keep the stories coming I say.

Samantha is a rare unicorn shifter and has been on the run for along time, never settling in one place for too long or getting close to anyone. Then she meets Frank, a kind old man who helps her get away from the Theron. He gives up his life to save hers, but before he dies he gives her a map and a instructions to find a place called Sendoa. But what she finds is not what she expected.

Leo is a lion shifter and alpha of his clan. When his grandfather gives him instructions to go meet a woman seeking his help, his shocked. He never expected the legends about the lion and the unicorn to be true, or that she is his mate.

The legend, along with forsight from Frank and family members that have a little insight into the future, and what will bring down the Theron. But first a mating pair that need to be mated before they go into battle.

This was an awesome read. I love shifter stories but this is the first one I've read that has a unicorn in it and I loved it. It was entertaining and exciting and kept my interest from start to finish. The characters were really sweet but they were also strong and protective. This book has so much potential to go further and hope that we might read about some of the other characters in the future. My only issue is that there were a few areas in the book that I felt could have been a little more expressive and descriptive. Otherwise overall a fantastic read!

Magic of Fairy Tales Come True!

What a magical adventure, truly wonderful...

Samantha is a very unique Unicorn shifter who has been on the run from the evil Theron that killed her family. She has been raised in the human world and their customs and has been sheltered as to her true abilities and the part she plays in the salvation of shifters.

In her run she meets her true mate Leo a lion shifter, she always thought that unicorn was prey to the lion, those were the stories she heard as a child? She soon finds out she is more than she ever thought, she and Leo are part of a prophecy but she has no clue as to how she will make a difference. Thus begins Samantha and Leo's adventure into the world of magic trying to figure out how they will put an end to the evil that is chasing her and also means to do harm to all shifters.

I actually felt poor Samantha's frustration, not to mention Leo's as these two deny themselves the mate pull.

This book can be read by all lovers of shifters and the paranormal, it is very magical an there is much love and wit.

The Lion and The Unicorn weaves together mythical folklore, shifters, family bonds and romance. It truly has a bit of everything. It is a suspenseful, thrilling tale that follows Samantha who has lost everyone she called family. She finds help in unusual places as she discovers her destiny and in the end fights for shifters everywhere.

I totally want to be Samantha! The girl can multi task in her sleep. If I had that talent I would be unstoppable.

I adore Delphinia’s conversational writing style. Her books read like a friendly conversation at a local coffee shop. I feel that her style connects me that much more to her stories. I loved the way she combined the folklore into this story. I like the combining of the old and new. I sincerely hope there is a follow up book because I would love to see Samantha in all her Bad A** glory!

Allene Symons is the author of Nostradamus, Vagabond Prophet: A Novel of His Life and Time and an instructor of communications and media studies at Santa Ana College. A Little Enlightenment at Your Fingertips . . .

For minutiae lifted from the book, see below review/s. I’ll just say that if you are the kind of reader who hates adding to your list-of-books-to-read when you finish a book; if you hate the 60s drug culture and are turned off by just thinking about things like LSD, mescaline, psilocybin, and a bunch of other psychedelics, and how contemporary research is proving them to be highly effective alleviants in patient studies for PTSD, depression, terminal cancer, addiction, schizophrenia, etc.; if you don’t give a hoot about the interesting neological story behind psychedelics the word; if you are not interested in holding in your hands a magical device that will allow you at the turn of a page to participate in time travel and share in the thinking of some of the greatest minds this world has seen and how Aldous Huxley fits into it all—well, don’t buy Aldous Huxley’s Hands. I am a product of the 60s and I have to admit that during those formative years I did little reading and was a poor reader at best, so now that I find myself in my “advanced years” I am rather picky about how I spend my time and I do not bother reading anything that won’t completely suck me in. I knew about Hands, but just being about Aldous Huxley did not impel me to read it. Then I went to a book signing and after the impassioned presentation Allene Symons gave and finding out that her research had everything to do with a major part of my foggy youth, well, I was hooked. And am I glad that I went to hear her pitch. At about 2 a.m. this morning I put the book down and just sat in the quiet stillness of the wee hours, allowing the euphoria of personal enrichment to wash over me for having just completed Hands. Time well spent. So many places did I travel to; so many interesting people did I meet; so many new things did I learn—not to mention that a big gap in my life, my personal puzzle, had been filled in. I really don’t know how to describe Symons’s work. It’s not a memoir. It’s not a biography. And while she does a splendid job of reconstructing dialogue between Huxley and other notables on a real life stage she constructs for us, it is not fiction. What it is, though, is interesting. Not a boring moment to be found. Without being pedantic, it is chock-full of scholarly factual tidbits, science, history, fascinating personages, and important state-of-the-art information about present day psychological research with psychedelic drugs. Under another pen, Hands could be a most dry piece to handle. The magic here, though, is that, aside from being an intelligent and skillful writer with a sense of humor to boot, Symons has masterfully structured a personal story that weaves her childhood and her father’s lifelong obsession with hands with the lives of Aldous Huxley and a goodly number of his inner circle of famous friends and fellow travelers. That said, you may have noticed that considering the book’s title that I have not mentioned much at all about Huxley. Why? Because Hands is about so much more. He is the focus, sure, but a galaxy of worlds and people orbit him and Symons takes us to each for a historical look-see and then wraps it all up in a nice tight bundle we can walk away with. In essence, she takes us on a spiritual trip sans the drugs. The decade plus it took her to research and write Hands was a mind-expanding adventure, and she takes us right along explaining what’s what every step of the way. You will not regret reading Aldous Huxley’s Hands. But once you have finished it, though, be forewarned that you will be adding at least five or six new books by Huxley et al. to your list-of-things-to-read and printing out several of his essays you can easily find online.

A lively and interesting read - recommended

This book is not a dry biography of Huxley. Instead, it gives a solid high-level background of his life with a special focus on his time spent living in the Los Angeles area and his mixing with a variety of fascinating people (including the author’s father). The focus on this compelling period in Huxley’s life coupled with the autobiographical snippets from the author really make the book a pleasure to read.

Insights into the unique subculture (1950s intellectual\experimental Los Angeles) are colorful while many notable personalities (Heard, Krishnamurti, Hubbard, Janiger, Smith, Leary, the early LA Vendantists, et. al.) appear throughout the pages. It is fun to watch them weave in and out of the book. The Tuesday night get-togethers at the Huxley household could be a book in themselves. The extensive interactions between Huxley, Osmond and Smythies are documented in a readable and enjoyable manner.

This is a good read for anyone interested in the intellectual and cultural times when investigations into psychedelics were earnestly being made by practicing physicians and psychiatrists, noted men of letters, philosophers of religion, and scientific researchers. It takes place in the days prior to the cultural shifts of the 1960s when recreational usage exploded and research of this type could still be discussed and debated - even in national periodicals. It makes you wonder what would have happened if groups like the Merry Pranksters and the team at Millbrook had been a bit more subdued or erudite in their approach to these powerful tools.

A magical mystery book!

Fascinating! Part memoir of a daughter of divorce reconnecting with her elderly father; part biography of Aldous Huxley; part history of psychedelic science; and part rambling romp through the murky fields of Southern California’s new age prophets and profiteers. Imagine a well-written, comprehensive study of mid-twentieth century intellectuals obsessed with the relationship between the mind and the body, throw in a dash of Leonard Nimoy’s “In Search Of,” and back it up with a groovy soundtrack of LSD-inspired rock-and-roll, and you’ll start to get the picture.
