Predictable is good

This is the first book in a series of books that the author plans to set in the fictional town of Grace Haven. As a member of the LOVE INSPIRED book club, I look forward to reading the stories of the the other secondary characters in this novel.
Kimberly Gallagher is back in her hometown of Grace Haven, after being dumped by her fiance and fired from her job. She comes home to help run her mother's wedding planning business while her father, the town's police chief, deals with and recovers from a medical emergency. One of her first clients is a senator's daughter, whose father just happens to be the front runner for the Presidential campaign, which is just weeks away. Enter Andrew "Drew" Slade - Kimberly's childhood crush and her brother's former police officer partner. He is the senator's security team leader and he is there to make sure that the senator, his daughter and all the wedding guests are safe and secure for the nuptials.
Kimberly blames Drew for her brother's death in the line of duty - and so does her brother's son, Callan. But Drew is looking to put down roots for himself and his pre-teenaged daughter. Can he do it in his childhood hometown of Grace Haven, when every time he looks at Kimberly, he is reminded of what he lost when his best friend, Dave Gallgher, died?
Like all Christian romance novels, you know as you read this that there will be a happy ending. You know that the characters will have to have a "come to Jesus" moment - either for themselves or with each other. You know that, no matter the obstacles, God will work it out. And the author does not disappoint in this book. So, while it may be predictable, it is still enjoyable. With all the chaos and uncertainty that we live with on a daily basis, it is sometimes nice to just come aside and relax, knowing how things will turn out in the end.
I would recommend this for anyone interested in a light read that has faith undertones without being too pushy when it comes to God and learning to trust in Him.

Another book by Ruth Logan Herne that I loved! An Unexpected Groom is the first book in the new Grace Haven series. It is the story of Kimberly, an unemployed event planner who comes home to help out at her mom's wedding planning business, and Drew, a former cop turned head of private security for a senator and presidential candidate. Drew comes back to the town where he grew up to oversee the security and planning of the senator's daughter's wedding. Kimberly is responsible for the wedding planning when her mom must be out of town with her dad for his medical treatment. Drew and Kimberly knew each other since childhood when Drew and her now deceased brother were best friends then partners on the police force. With Drew's return, Kimberly and her nephew must deal with their anger at Drew over Dave's death while Drew deals with his daughter's unexpected presence and her love of the town. While I could guess how the story was going to end, I enjoyed the plot twists Ruth put in the story. I can't wait to read more books in this series.
I did win a copy of this book through a contest on Ruth's blog. To my recollection, she didn't ask for a review in exchange for the free book. I also received a copy bought through Harlequin's Reader Service. I gave it 5 stars because I loved it so much!
Another thing I loved was that Ruth Logan Herne dedicated this book to the officers lost in the line of duty. She noted that she is honoring those officers killed in 2014 by "using their first names for all of the male characters" in the series. One exception is Drew, the hero of this book, who is "named for or NYS Trooper A.J. Sperr, a member of her church who was gunned down in a routine traffic stop ten years ago."

AN UNEXPECTED GROOM~Captivating and highly recommended!

Ruth Logan Herne has done it again! This first book of her new Grace Haven series is total reading enjoyment. The author excels at developing believable flawed characters with issues and insecurities the reader will be able to relate to and identify with, while admiring their tenacity, strength and emotional depth.
A "downsized" events planner, jilted by her fiancée returns to her hometown to help out at her mother's wedding shop. An ex-cop and single dad turned security specialist, also returning to town to oversee the security and planning of the wedding of a senator's daughter. He was her childhood crush and she was the beautiful little sister of his best friend and partner, but when they meet again the attraction is obviously still there.
But the attraction is not without complications. She believes he's responsible for her brothers death. He's a father who didn't succeed at his first relationship and isn't interested in another. They have to work together while planning this high security wedding. Add in a precocious self-confidant eleven year old, an angry nephew who lost his father too soon and a security dog trained to alert to danger and you have all the makings of a first class story.
It's a wonderfully touching love story, but there's a secondary story involving the wedding industry for dignitaries and the inner workings of protecting celebrities that was fascinating.
After this terrific start to the Grace Haven series, I'm looking forward to the next installment! I appreciate the authors dedication page in honor of a NYS Trooper, lost in the line of duty. A sobering reminder to us all to never forget those who protect us, Every. Single. Day. Many thanks to Ruth Logan Herne for making a copy of this book available for review.
