Since then, the beautiful story of a beset upon heroine tormented by her stepfamily who finds happiness in the arms of a prince, has been retold hundreds of times. In this retelling, we add a bit of heat to the tale, bringing Cinders in close proximity to Prince Ash, and watch the sparks fly.

About the Author
Rosetta Bloom loves a good love story. She also likes a steamy tale with two characters who find solace in each other's arms. So, she writes romance and erotic romances, and all of them end happily, because Rosetta hates sad endings. If you want a story that has a few surprises, and lots of heart, then she's writing the story for you.

Rosetta Bloom's first novella, The Princess, the Pea and the Night of Passion was published in December 2014. Her second novella in the Passion-Filled Fairy Tales series, Beauty and Her Beastly Love, was published in January 2015. In May of 2015, she began publishing a series of short tales as part of her Romance: Trysts series. The trysts are fairly erotic in nature, and lots of fun. They're called Romance: Trysts because despite their shortness, there's a touch of romance in each that should you make smile (after you catch your breath from the steamy love scenes).

Cinders & Ash is double the length of Ms. Bloom’s tales so far. The result is a well told story with well-defined characters and a plot of conspiracy against the throne. Prince John Ashton learns that prophecies and fairies should not be taken lightly. He has led a very sheltered life because his mother is a believer and convinced the prophecy and fairies are real.

Ella is a wise young lady who has only one true friend, Faye. An orphan whose life had been full of tough breaks, Faye and Ella bonded over shared miseries and became fast friends. Ella realized she was better off than Faye, but she knew she could trust her. Ella needs money and fast so she can run far enough away that her step-mother will not come looking for her. She decided that being a “companion” to a visiting noble was not too low to sink to get enough money to start a new life. She didn’t plan to develop feelings for this noble. She also didn’t realize who this mystery man was. Ella also didn’t intend to get kidnapped. She didn’t see who sneaked up behind her and put that foul smelling rag over her nose and mouth.

Ash thought he had the perfect plan to help Cinders out of her dilemma and get her out of her step-mothers house, until she disappears. Now he is going to need the luck from fairies, and much more, to rescue Cinders and figure out what is going on with her kidnappers. Could the Prince possibly be their real target and why? The conspirator thinks they have it all figured out.

I enjoyed the scenery around the Crystal Pond, I thought this was a great addition to the story, as well as the story behind it. I also enjoyed the way Ms. Bloom brought in the pumpkin carriage and mice without using magic! Very clever and well done.

FYI: Cinders & Ash is book 3 in the Passion-Filled Fairy Tales series. This is an erotic romance so there are graphic scenes, if that offends you then you should find another story. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. Great retelling of Cinderella but not a version to read to your children ;)

This is the third fairy tale retold by Rosetta Bloom. It brings us the story of Ella who has been living with her evil stepmother and stepsisters for the last 9 years. She wants to escape them and has been saving money but her vicious stepmother takes the money and punishes Ella severely. Her friend Faye suggests to sell her body to a lowly relative of the King in the castle. Ella introduces herself as Cinders to Ash. She doesn’t know Ash is in fact the sheltered Prince. Ella feels ashamed, dirty and unhappy about whoring herself. Ash finds out that Cinders is amazing in drawing and buys her services to make a portrait because he’s starting to get feelings for Cinders and wants to keep seeing her. But will they get their HEA? … That’s all I’ll be telling about the story

This is not a version to read to your children because it’s an erotic retelling ;) I may be a grownup but I still love fairy tales … My favourite is Beauty and the Beast but Cinderella is in the top too.

I liked this retelling but I didn’t love it. I can’t explain what made me like it instead of love… But I did enjoy it!

and this was actually the first book by Rosetta Bloom I've read
I have to admit I won't be hesitating to start reading her other books.

Ella has been secretly working for a local shopkeeper to earn some cash to get away from her stepmother Lady Kenna finds out, she gets her stepdaughter fired, and takes all the cash. Ella's friend suggest she head to the castle for a job that pays well and requires not a ton of effort. Desperate after the loss of her hardearned money, she agrees.

Ash is a prince confined to a castle. The queen is convinced magic fairies are real and are out to do her son harm. When a girl that goes by Cinders is brought to his chambers, he finds her beautiful and has an utter need to see her again.

They keep meeting, Ella is unaware of Ash being THE prince, which leads to some complications along the way.
Will they get their 'and they lived happily ever after' with Ella's stepmother and -sisters and Ash's cousins all in one kingdom?

Ready for Book Two!

I thoroughly enjoyed A Violent Infinity.
Monroe has a playful writing style that hooks you from the start into the story of a girl named Chloe who is whisked away to a mysterious world called Eirvah. There she finds her coming is a sign heralding in a new age, one that some rejoice about but others loathe. The scrawny used-to-be-nobody soon finds herself making more friends and enemies than she ever cared to have. Her new friends rally around to protect the long-awaited girl with purple eyes.

The author, posing himself as the actual narrator, unfolds the story in such a way that keeps readers glued to the book and have a hard time putting it down. He has a talent of keeping you in the dark just enough to pique your curiosity and make you want to keep reading just one more chapter. The book's short chapters only make that dynamic stronger. They also make for easier reading, but that's just my personal preference. Monroe has a lot of intentional humor peppered throughout the story, which I really liked. I also was very impressed with the depth to which the author goes to flesh out the world of Eirvah. He's not afraid to redefine fantasy creatures that many of us are already accustomed to. One of my favorite examples of this was Monroe's description of Eirvah's goblins and how different they are from what I normally think of when I think of the word 'goblin.' Elves in Eirvah, although in a different way, also are very different from their original definitions we're used to. Monroe also creates new creatures altogether that the reader would've never heard of, like the Akuomant or Byrriah beast. On that note, one strong point I found with this piece is how original all the main characters are. Especially with characters like Lavender Periwinkle, I really can't think of any other character from another book or movie that Monroe could've pulled from in his creation of them. They're purely original, and that takes talent. At the close of the book Monroe includes an appendices section that I recommend EVERY reader to look into. He further delves into the world of Eirvah and helps satisfy readers' curiosity by providing answers to questions that they would have naturally had while reading the story. In it he covers topics such as the creation of Eirvah, its deities/higher beings, elements, and even touches on language with the mention of Ghrellick, the tongue of goblins. Another thing I appreciated about Monroe's work is the fact that he intentionally visits and explores several philosophical and ethical questions through the dialogue of the characters. Time in relations to one's perspective, the seduction of evil, and the practice or rejection of witchcraft are a few examples. In addition to this readers can, if they pay attention, expect to find multiple hat-tips to other popular literature and TV like Lord of the Rings, the Silmarillion, the Bible, Dragon Ball Z, etc. at various points in the book.

I only have two minor critiques for the book, which is why I'm giving it a four star rating. Firstly, maybe it's just me, but I found some of the transitions in chapters IV and V to be a bit confusing and hard to follow. Secondly, there are some word and spelling errors every now and then in the book. Then again, I find that with some of my favorite authors - even R.A. Salvatore is guilty of that in multiple books in his Legend of Drizzt series.

Overall, I loved the book. Currently reading through it a second time and seriously can't wait to read the second one to figure out what happens next!

This book was not at all what I was expecting. I'm a very avid reader and found myself enjoying this unique writing style. I couldn't help but see some mythological and Biblical parallels, especially in the appendices. However, they weren't painfully obvious which was great! It was really as if I had entered into an entirely different world.This is one of those books that, although fictitious, help you see truth. It was lots of fun and relatively easy read. My grandma enjoyed it and I'm sure my neighbors' kids will too! =) This guy even has a website with other sorts of creative content. www.robbymonroe.com....not quite as good as the book though! =) I can't wait for the next one! I've almost read this one twice already.

For anyone who enjoys a truly great book I strongly suggest reading this book! This book is so well written that you almost feel transported to the lands in the book! This book drew me in from the very first paragraph and held my attention all the way to the end leaving me anxious for the second installment! Growing up I adored C.S. Lewis and The Chronicles of Narnia books and this book is equal in excitement and adventure to those books! Seriously, anyone who has ever read and enjoyed The Chronicles of Narnia will LOVE this book!

Good sequel

I liked it. I really did. Excellent light reading. But..if you include military scenarios, get a military person to check your handling of it. Hopefully, this is a spellcheck disaster. In chapter 16, the hero reports being injured in an IUD explosion. After I stopped laughing, I cringed. An IUD is an intrauterine device. I think you mean IED., improvised explosive device. Please correct this at your first opportunity. P.s. I still gave you five stars, but I don't think you were looking for laughter in that scene.

Great book - hard to put down!

This is a really great story, just enough romance and mystery to make you not want to put it down to the very end. There is an unexpected jaw dropping twist that is surprising to say the least near the end. I am looking forward to your next book in this series.

A sweet story.

For once a clean love story! But with that said I feel this story is prefectly geared for young adult. Written simplisticy. The best part for me was the prologue after that things sort of fell through. Still worth the price.

Chapter Two: Epiphany
Cain broke into a run when he left the circle of firelight, loping along the side of the river. The half moon was just rising, so he could avoid most obstacles; but occasionally a branch whipped across his face, giving him a strong slap. He needed that. He was angry at Elohim.
Why couldn’t he have a wife? Could only his father have one? Could only his parents marry? If this was the case, it didn’t seem fair.
As the family sat around the fire, his father had told that story again, the one about God giving him their mother. To teach them, Father always told a story on the evening of the sixth day, a verbal chronicle of their time of Eden. Tonight he had related this tale. Why that one?
As Cain had listened, discontent had nearly crushed him with its weight. He longed for the type of love a man and a woman shared. Gazing into Lilith’s eyes across the fire, he had realized he was dissatisfied with his life. It made him agitated. He wanted a wife of his own. He didn’t know how he’d ever get one though. Apparently, only his parents could marry.
He couldn’t take it anymore. He had jumped up from the bonfire, running off, surprising them all. Now he lowered his head and ran harder. The situation discouraged him.
After he had covered a great distance, he slowed to catch his breath. The pounding of running feet sounded far behind him. That would be Lilith or Abel, probably Lilith. When Cain had jumped up from the fireside, Abel had been holding small sleeping siblings on his lap and surrounding him on either side. Though Abel had glanced up quickly, kind concern on his face, he wouldn’t rise and disturb the slumbering little ones.
Cain peered into the distance. The moonlight illuminated Lilith; she was running fast. He considered racing on ahead. He didn’t want to talk to her. Frustrated with the state of his life, he couldn’t articulate his feelings—all within him was in turmoil. But then he remembered her eyes by the firelight and waited for her instead.
Lilith fell. She must have tripped over something in the dark. Concerned, Cain took a step back toward her. Her head reappeared.
“Cain,” she called. “Wait! I’m sorry.”
Sorry? Sorry for what? He waited.
She raced up to him, winded as she bent to rub her shin. “Will you forgive me?”
“What have you done?”
“I shouldn’t have teased you about your beard.”
That evening he had scraped the stubble from his face with one of his sharpened stone cutting tools, and Lilith had noticed, gesturing to him from across the fire.
“I wasn’t mad at you,” he said.
Noticing a trickle of dark blood running down Lilith’s leg, Cain grasped her hand and led her toward the river. Silently, he bent to wash the wound. Caring for her and all his younger brothers and sisters was a habit. Kneeling on the earth, he bathed and inspected the injury as well as he could by the moonlight. Without speaking, Lilith watched his ministrations.
“Then what’s wrong?” she said, finally breaking the silence.
“I can’t talk about it.”
“Yes, you can. You tell me everything.”
“I can’t tell you about this.”
“Why not?”
“It’s too confusing,” he said.

A powerful story you can't help but relate to.

Refuge Review

Refuge is a very powerful novel with themes that can’t help but hit home with all of us. In this story, we see the struggle of sin starting with Adam and how it accelerates with each generation. The story largely focuses on Cain and his struggle with sin and how he eventually succumbs. The aftermath of his action reaches farther than he could have ever expected. Not only is this a story of sin and the ramification of our actions, it is also a love story. We see how Cain’s act affected not only himself, but also the people he loved most.

When I first started this book I wasn’t sure what to expect. The further I read, I found myself turning the page waiting to find out what was going to happen next. Tackling a concept of this depth is no easy task and I am happy to say I was not disappointed in the quality of the work. Throughout the story, I found myself questioning several things I had never really thought about before.

A story like this that can keep my attention is difficult to find. I hope others get as much from the story as I did. A job well done Melinda.

A fascinating novel

This is a very powerful book showing the power of sin to destroy a perfect world and tear apart a family, Cain's physical power over his brother and Satan's intense anger and hatred for humankind. As a reader, seeing the brokenness of Adam and then his son, Cain, over their own personal sins really hit home when I think about how blase I sometimes am about my own attitude toward God. I also really enjoyed the fictional aspects of the book:the descriptions of the relationships and conversations between the first family ever created, the descriptions of the Garden being guarded by cherubim, and how nature may have looken in the newly-fallen and tainted world.

I was pretty engrossed in this book (lost some sleep because of it! I had to find out what happened next!). The discussion questions are not to be overlooked, either.

Captivating and imaginative!

The Refuge captured my attention at the onset. Within the first few pages, I was hooked. Totally recommend this book! Even though the setting is unfamiliar compared with today (immediately outside the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve), Melinda's rich and engaging development of the setting and the characters drew me in. The people and the relationships are believable, and I could relate to them as though they were people I know now, faults and strengths. I think what was most evident to me throughout the entire story is how God so deeply loves each and every one of us no matter what we have done or where we are in our journey. He yearns for our fulfillment through Him as we were designed to be, and desires for us to receive His forgiveness and healing, to become who He created us to be. That message is strong. I also enjoyed the straight-up recognition of Satan as the leader of the fallen angels, prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). What the advesary can and cannot do is addressed in various situations, and the study guide helps readers understand and apply this important knowledge of spiritual warfare, a reality of life whether we like it or not. An appropriate ending for the time being, but the ending left me wanting more...

A Bible study rejuvenator!

Near the beginning of Pleasure & Profit In Bible Study, Dwight Moody states the purpose of his book: “We cannot overestimate the importance of a thorough familiarity with the Bible. I try to lose no opportunity of urging people by every means in my power to the constant study of this wonderful Book. If through the pages that follow, I can reach still others and rouse them to read their Bibles, not at random but with a plan and purpose, I shall be indeed thankful.”

I am thankful that D.L. Moody took the time to pen this book for us. Though over a century old, his words are bringing a renewed excitement to studying my all-time favorite book: The Bible.

Moody devoured God’s Word, and had amazing recall of all he read. He reminds us that anything we are full of will be much easier to recall and apply. He then allows us a glimpse into his personal study time, showing us how he reads his Bible, what he looks for, how he marks certain passages, and other ways to engage Scripture.

If anyone ever felt like their Bible reading or studying was in a rut, this book will be a welcome rejuvenator. Even for those who already appreciate their time studying God’s Word, Pleasure & Profit will bring new insights for your study time.

An excellent and readable introduction to Arthurian legends!

Who hasn't heard of King Arthur and the knights of his Round Table? In this book you meet them all - including the magician Merlin, and the brave knights Sir Launcelot, Sir Gareth, Sir Tristam, Sir Bors, Sir Kay, and Sir Galahad. All the old favorites are included - Arthur drawing the sword out of the stone, Arthur receiving the sword Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake, and Arthur's marriage to Guinevere. But this is just the beginning of excitement - followed by numerous quests and adventures of the knights, including the Quest for the Holy Grail. This book is chock-full of entertaining adventures involving knights in shining armour, damsels in distress, fierce jousting and sword fights to the death, battles against hoards of enemies and giants, tournaments and miracles.
The medieval setting is painted in a rather idealized fashion, limited to the nobility and figures of the court, who embrace all that is beautiful, brave and noble. These virtues are sometimes portrayed rather simplistically, as unknown knights engage in mortal combat, and only after they have virtually killed each other do the introductions begin: "What is your name?" Behind this medieval mayhem is a heightened sense of chivalry more reflective of legend than fact, where knights battle to the death for the sake of a woman - even one they have only just met. But isn't that what the Arthurian legends are all about? Nobody is under the illusion that they are to be taken too seriously. Journeying to Arthur's Camelot is a form of escapism - suspend your sense of disbelief, watch the flashing swords and fearful battles, and enjoy.
That's not to say that the Arthurian tales do not reflect any reality. Arthur's world is in many respects a real medieval world. Medieval beliefs in paganism and Christianity are evident throughout. Witchcraft and enchantment is presented as alive and deadly, and conversely the true religion - in this case the beliefs of the medieval Catholic church - is evident throughout as knights commend themselves to God in prayer, thank him for his help, and even repent from their sins. The whole notion of the Holy Grail is of course a very Christian tradition - although a tradition that represents more fiction than fact. And the moral virtues of justice, truth and right for which the honorable knights fight are still noble ideals of virtue today. Arthur's kingdom is presented as a kingdom blessed by the grace of God, a beacon of light symbolizing all that is good and true and right, and a worthy model for kingdoms in today's world because it revolves around timeless virtues. Tales that promote dignity, courtesy, courage, respect for right, respect for female dignity and purity are as ennobling as they are entertaining.
How much truth there is behind the Arthurian tales will always be the subject of debate. The fact remains that there is an extensive and confusing body of legend to wade through. In this work, Green has essentially followed Malory's fifteenth century classic "Morte d'Arthur." But unlike most other writers, such as Sir James Knowles, Green has made some significant improvements:
1. Firstly, the traditional Arthurian tales are a confusing mass of legends. But Green consciously weaves all the tales together as part of a single pattern. He needs to take some liberties with legend in order to achieve this, but these alterations are minor, and the end result is a plausible reconstruction with a clear development, revolving around the establishment of Arthur's kingdom, its climax with the successful quest for the Holy Grail, and subsequent downfall.
2. Secondly, most other collections slavishly follow the body of legend inherited by Thomas Malory. Green follows Malory in the main, but has researched the legends carefully for himself, and also incorporates some Arthurian legends not found in Malory.
These innovations of Green result in a very readable and successful version of the Arthurian tales, and yet one that does not significantly sacrifice faithfulness to legend. Those looking for a more historical reflection of the Arthurian tales would do well to turn to a version of Malory, such as that by Sir James Knowles. And those looking for a more developed and extensive modern version where the author has taken liberties beyond the original legends, would enjoy the classic work by Howard Pyle. But as a faithful, plausible and enjoyable introduction to the tales, you can't go wrong with this superb effort by Green.
Most readers looking to be introduced to the Arthurian legends need look no further than this collection by Green. It's not as grand as Malory, but it's a better read. There is no end to the accomplishments of sword and sorcery, adventures and quests. To our sorrow, Arthur's kingdom ends in darkness and disgrace, but not before it has shone with a wonderful and memorable light. Along with the tales of Robin Hood, the tales of King Arthur are the most exciting tales that British history has produced. This is the stuff of legend, and it's worth a read.

Not the version I would suggest

It's curious to me that this is the best-selling version of the King Arthur story in the kindle store, because it's a singularly flawed collection, well-eclipsed by other variants that are also available for free online; I suspect its popularity is an artifact of the search engine, not the book's own merits.

The author, Sir James Knowles, was an architect and friend of Tennyson, best known for founding the Metaphysical Society; this is, therefore, a very Victorian Arthur. In this case, "victorian" means "bowdlerized to the point of inanity." The story of Merlin's enchantment of Uther and Igraine to arrange Arthur's conception is almost completely elided ("When Uther, therefore, was at length happily wedded" -- yep, that's the whole story); Sir Tristram is apparently completely chaste with Iseult (King Mark just doesn't like him for some indiscernible reason) and even when Lancelot and Guinevere are caught together and the entire course of the story turns on adultery, such that bowdlerization was completely impossible, Gawain suggests that "it may well be that Lancelot was in her chamber for no evil." The story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is simply not included at all.

I suppose that kind of bowdlerization might be acceptable in a children's version of the Arthur stories, but this edition isn't good for that either, for two reasons: 1) like many free kindle ebooks, all illustrations have been removed, and 2) it's a kindle edition, and who gives a $250 ebook reader to a child too young to read a story with adultery in it?

There are other problems also. The King of Gaul (Sir Bors) is an ally for the first third and last third of the book, but in the middle, Gaul has a different king, Flollo, and Arthur conquers Gaul six ways from Sunday (mostly as a stopover in his conquest of Rome); timelines don't add up; so on, so forth. I didn't feel the author did a good job of telling the Arthur legends, in any particular. In short, this is a bad version of the King Arthur story and the general reader would be better off not wasting time on it.

I'm sure people are going to say "hey, it's an early victorian version, don't hold it to such high standards," but there's no reason for a modern reader to read these, any more than there's reason to read Sir Thomas Bowdler's "Family Shakespeare". For more "historical" versions of the Arthur legend, either of this versions' main source materials -- Geoffrey of Monmouth's _History of the Kings of Britain_ or Sir Thomas Malory's _Morte D'Arthur_ -- are superior reads (though I'll admit you'd want to skim Monmouth heavily). My own personal favorite, Howard Pyle's three-book version of the Arthur story ("The Story of King Arthur and His Knights," "The Story of the Champions of the Round Table," and "The Story of the Grail and the Passing of Arthur") is similarly available for free online in the public domain, can be found with excellent illustrations by Pyle himself, is written in a fashion suitable for children and adults, and does a far better job of capturing the romance of the Arthur legends.

But whatever version you pick, this one is a poor place to start. It does have some strengths -- chiefly an encylopedic compilation of at least some version of almost every PG Arthur-related tale -- but the author's victorian mores seem to have twisted far too many of the stories into unrecognizability. Not recommended.

A dignified and beautiful introduction to the legends

I have loved the tales of Camelot since I was quite small. Due to this, several friends have asked me where they should begin. Over and over again, I recommend Green. His work is not majestic like Malory, but much easier to read and follow, especailly for a neophyte. Children love it, as do adults; this book gives the basic nobility of the tales, giving a good clue as to why they've been so popular for so long. Green also includes several tales of Sir Gawain, so he is not the near-felon he seems in several late medieval texts. The books is charming, moving, sad, happy, and everything else you could wish from Camelot. If you haven't read of Arthur before, begin here; if you want to remember why you loved these tales to begin with, read Green. He provides more than you would ever expect.

Why the princess ate the stone.

I was very impressed by this book. A lot of books grab you by the scruff of the neck and drag you along. This one was like an old friend that you'll drop anything to talk to. I started reading it, and looked up 3 hours later, not realising time had passed. It was gripping, well thought out, well written and well put together. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone, and look forward with anticipation to the sequel.

I think it's obvious that the author is a reader of Terry Pratchett, as she pays a lot of attention to detail, researches well and knows how to put together a very good book. It was a very good read, to the point that I've read it three times. There's always something new!

I genuinely enjoyed this book

I genuinely enjoyed this book. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, but I suspect this will make a lot of great fodder for sequels should this be the first in a series. I would recommend this book to anyone who liked the Mistmantle Chronicles, the Redwall series, The Tale of Despereaux, etc. The characters here are not animals, but the setting and story have a similar cadence and flavor.

A page-turner that wears its learning lightly, good read for young and old

It picks you up and carries you along, genuinely a page turner.  And I love the chapter heading quotes about stones.  Ditto the author's information about things as diverse as recipes for spells and charms and all that about grave goods and other things I've either forgotten or missed entirely.  She wears all that learning lightly, it adds to the plot without making the reader think they are being taught anything.  And I lap up that sort of thing.

Spoiler Alert: However I was at a loss about a few things.  First and foremost what seemed the transformation of Gojen from kind father-figure counsellor to villain within the space of a sentence or two.  This I think would have worked better if we had seen the story from a first person narrator such as Niren, who would have been totally taken in by him.  But with third person omniscient  narration  some little hints dropped here and there would have heightened the suspense.  As it was the revelation of his villainy was indeed like a big stone dropping into the narrative.  I was nonplused and didn't feel at ease with it.  Maybe I missed something earlier on.

With the characters of Niren and Lyru I felt that the difficulties between the sisters early on and the later transformation of their characters was a bit patchy [possibly this could be because I don't have siblings] and they seemed to take on moods without any real background reasons.  

But that's about the only criticism I would make, that character development through action and some more background could be somewhat more rounded.

Generally, I was taken along very happily through the narrative, amused by some of the suitors, and saddened for them as well.  Really surprised by later revelations about Gojen -- those were deftly handled.  I felt that the narrative and character development got deeper and richer as it went along.

All in all four and a half out of five stars and a huge Brava! for what is a rich and tasty exercise of imagination, a first novel almost entirely beautifully realised.

I just read through the sample, and so far, I can't stop thinking about these characters. What is Diana's story? I want to know more about the Tessa Rose! I am buying this today so I can read it this weekend. I couldn't stop reading!
Belle Peters has an emotional depth that is hard to find in first-person authors. She is able to rationalize the thoughts and reasons behind why her characters do what they do, in a very short and clear way.

Great debut

Well...I have to say that this book was one of the few debut novels by a young author that I actually enjoyed. Once I finished I found myself going through each page, gathering hints as to what would come in the next book. And talk about a twist! Towards the end, right before the final confrontation, I was shocked at the background of one of the mains. I highly recommend it!

Predictable is good

This is the first book in a series of books that the author plans to set in the fictional town of Grace Haven. As a member of the LOVE INSPIRED book club, I look forward to reading the stories of the the other secondary characters in this novel.

Kimberly Gallagher is back in her hometown of Grace Haven, after being dumped by her fiance and fired from her job. She comes home to help run her mother's wedding planning business while her father, the town's police chief, deals with and recovers from a medical emergency. One of her first clients is a senator's daughter, whose father just happens to be the front runner for the Presidential campaign, which is just weeks away. Enter Andrew "Drew" Slade - Kimberly's childhood crush and her brother's former police officer partner. He is the senator's security team leader and he is there to make sure that the senator, his daughter and all the wedding guests are safe and secure for the nuptials.

Kimberly blames Drew for her brother's death in the line of duty - and so does her brother's son, Callan. But Drew is looking to put down roots for himself and his pre-teenaged daughter. Can he do it in his childhood hometown of Grace Haven, when every time he looks at Kimberly, he is reminded of what he lost when his best friend, Dave Gallgher, died?

Like all Christian romance novels, you know as you read this that there will be a happy ending. You know that the characters will have to have a "come to Jesus" moment - either for themselves or with each other. You know that, no matter the obstacles, God will work it out. And the author does not disappoint in this book. So, while it may be predictable, it is still enjoyable. With all the chaos and uncertainty that we live with on a daily basis, it is sometimes nice to just come aside and relax, knowing how things will turn out in the end.

I would recommend this for anyone interested in a light read that has faith undertones without being too pushy when it comes to God and learning to trust in Him.

Another book by Ruth Logan Herne that I loved! An Unexpected Groom is the first book in the new Grace Haven series. It is the story of Kimberly, an unemployed event planner who comes home to help out at her mom's wedding planning business, and Drew, a former cop turned head of private security for a senator and presidential candidate. Drew comes back to the town where he grew up to oversee the security and planning of the senator's daughter's wedding. Kimberly is responsible for the wedding planning when her mom must be out of town with her dad for his medical treatment. Drew and Kimberly knew each other since childhood when Drew and her now deceased brother were best friends then partners on the police force. With Drew's return, Kimberly and her nephew must deal with their anger at Drew over Dave's death while Drew deals with his daughter's unexpected presence and her love of the town. While I could guess how the story was going to end, I enjoyed the plot twists Ruth put in the story. I can't wait to read more books in this series.

I did win a copy of this book through a contest on Ruth's blog. To my recollection, she didn't ask for a review in exchange for the free book. I also received a copy bought through Harlequin's Reader Service. I gave it 5 stars because I loved it so much!

Another thing I loved was that Ruth Logan Herne dedicated this book to the officers lost in the line of duty. She noted that she is honoring those officers killed in 2014 by "using their first names for all of the male characters" in the series. One exception is Drew, the hero of this book, who is "named for or NYS Trooper A.J. Sperr, a member of her church who was gunned down in a routine traffic stop ten years ago."

AN UNEXPECTED GROOM~Captivating and highly recommended!

Ruth Logan Herne has done it again! This first book of her new Grace Haven series is total reading enjoyment. The author excels at developing believable flawed characters with issues and insecurities the reader will be able to relate to and identify with, while admiring their tenacity, strength and emotional depth.

A "downsized" events planner, jilted by her fiancée returns to her hometown to help out at her mother's wedding shop. An ex-cop and single dad turned security specialist, also returning to town to oversee the security and planning of the wedding of a senator's daughter. He was her childhood crush and she was the beautiful little sister of his best friend and partner, but when they meet again the attraction is obviously still there.

But the attraction is not without complications. She believes he's responsible for her brothers death. He's a father who didn't succeed at his first relationship and isn't interested in another. They have to work together while planning this high security wedding. Add in a precocious self-confidant eleven year old, an angry nephew who lost his father too soon and a security dog trained to alert to danger and you have all the makings of a first class story.

It's a wonderfully touching love story, but there's a secondary story involving the wedding industry for dignitaries and the inner workings of protecting celebrities that was fascinating.

After this terrific start to the Grace Haven series, I'm looking forward to the next installment! I appreciate the authors dedication page in honor of a NYS Trooper, lost in the line of duty. A sobering reminder to us all to never forget those who protect us, Every. Single. Day. Many thanks to Ruth Logan Herne for making a copy of this book available for review.
