Several distinct personalities

There's nothing like a natural disaster to bring people together.
This was a charming read- The characters are enjoyable and the motivation for each character is described well enough that I wasn't questioning a character's actions. There were good transitions between the 'present' day (2050 is close enough) and the time of the storm gods. This book leans more towards fantasy than Science Fiction, but it fits into both umbrellas. There is an interesting form of narration used throughout the book- it's as though someone is sitting in a library telling the story to others, not only describing the story but also asking the reader questions to keep him or her engaged. It's unusual, but nonetheless it was enjoyable.
The balance of realism and very distinct personalities of the Gods was one of the great assets of the book. I'm not going to delve more into the plotline (due to spoilers) so I'll leave it with my recommendation for middle schoolers and up.

unique story, must read!

An excellent fantasy/sci-fy novel that tells of the Storm Gods and how they felt neglected by humans. The Storm Gods cause a ten year drought in hopes that the people will worship them once again. They propose the population of California meet a series of demands (of which the One True God disapproves) before they will send enough rain to end the drought.
This novella has a unique and interesting storyline that can be enjoyed by all ages. It is full of great dialogue and captivating character personalities. It is a must read for those looking for a metaphysical fantasy story that isn't centered around romance as so many others are. I especially enjoyed the ending and the reminder that it is important not to forget spirituality in the face of new technology.
Looking forward to more works from this author.
