"I loved the dating show idea, though. It was a very good twist. I enjoyed how you could feel him wrestling with his demons, and how he second guessed everything because the stakes were so high." - trubloodfan27 - Reading Alley review

. Fun, light and humorous, this is a lovely debut novel with plenty of sweetness and heart to leave you smiling.
By Gaele
Expecting that this story would be familiar in many ways from the rake needs a bride stories so common in historical romance, I was pleasantly surprised to see this modern version of the old trope come to life as I turned the pages.
We see Edmund, the stereotypical posh boy: used to frittering away his time without consequence or reprisals as he’s moneyed, handsome, reasonably intelligent and charming. His father’s will, however, mandates he find a bride, or ‘lock down a bride’ with impeccable credentials before his inheritance is secure. No, he won’t be in penury, but the lavish lifestyle and the perks that come with it will be curtailed, severely – a situation he is completely unprepared for.
Abby is a working student, struggling to make ends meet and keep her head above water – a task made more difficult by a care not for budgets or restrictions stepmother, who makes her job that much more difficult. Independent, determined and solidly unimpressed with the trappings of wealth and the airs that the rich tend to assume, she’s solidly working class and wholly grounded.
With a suggestion that Edmund look to America for his bride, and a semi-drunken decision to join a reality show (think The Bachelor) to find a bride, Edmund thinks he’s well under way to securing his inheritance. But he didn’t account for the sassy and intriguing barmaid, who just doesn’t seem to react to his “Britishness” as she should.
Bailey has written a lovely story, full of witty jibes and interplay that highlights the attraction and tension between Abby and Edmund, and with a little insertion of knowledge and a dash of meddle from Abby’s eccentric and rather hilarious older friend, Raify – the game is afoot.
Carefully plotted and planned, Bailey’s writing serves the story beautifuly as we see Edmund grow from rather careless boy into a man: he had all of the qualities, and while not necessarily aware of those who have less, he’s not mean-spirited or spiteful, just clueless. His interactions with Abby, someone who is the complete opposite of what he believes he wants or needs show him just how much better he can be with a touch of truth and grounding, and Abby needs to find a moment of “Prince Charming” in her life where she’s focused on the next bill, the next day, the next step. Edmund is Too British, Too Uptight and TOO damn intriguing, and she can’t quite figure out why he’s someone she can’t ignore.
The story starts a bit slowly as the characters are built, but soon you find yourself laughing along, seeing just how perfectly suited they are, even if they can’t see it themselves. Fun, light and humorous, this is a lovely debut novel with plenty of sweetness and heart to leave you smiling.
I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

A modernly jocular mix of 'Pride and Prejudice' & 'Cinderella'.......(4.5 stars!)
By Aanandita Maitra
Passionate salsa, pot full of drama, loads of humor, a whisper of magic, little angst, a dash of heartbreak and, a heady dose of love, sums up the plot of Lord Bachelor.
With witty narrative, lots of tongue in cheek moments, a hilarious inclusion of a reality show, a Cinderella romance including a villainous stepmother and stepsister (for free!), coupled with riotous lead characters, -this novel is a treat!
"A single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife"-not! Lord Edmund Rushwood, is forced to hang his bachelor status, in order to hold onto his title and fortune. He temporarily escapes to America and meets Abby, and starts developing feelings for her. Despite the genuineness of his affection towards Abby, he cannot stand the risk of losing the only lifestyle he is accustomed with, hence he keeps searching for the perfect bride for his purpose. With the incredulous idea of his friend Will, he bounds himself into the intricate webs of reality television, to feature on Lord Bachelor, a dating show, and select a blue blooded woman to marry. At the same time he cannot control his urges and emotions towards Abby, no matter how much he tries. And when Abby, accidentally lands on the show he is both angered and elated at the situation. Trying to juggle the weight of seven women together, his narration reveals sometimes a comical, sometimes a desperate plea for freedom. Ultimately, when he realizes to follow his heart over his mind, his responsibilities catches up to him and douses his hopes of proposing Abby.
On the other side, Abby Forester is shy, timid literature student, who fails to understand women's literature, and has given up on her future in order to keep her late father's dream alive. Without an aim for tomorrow, drifting through today and daydreaming of Mr. Darcy's naked chest (lol) her calm and quite world is shattered with the arrival of Edmund, whose determined pursuit doesn't leave a place for negation. Forcing her out of boring tranquility Edmund brings vivid colors to Abby life, making her see the world in a startling different way. But, when she grasps the truth of Edmund's situation, and realizes the naivety of her love, she resolutely removes the rose colored glasses and walks away from him.
Still, all is not lost and, with the help of a fairy god mother and twinkling of magical birds happily ever after is achieved.
The book is fast paced and the momentum is maintained by the alternative narratives of Edmund and Abby. With the inclusion of snippets from Bronte classics in a rather unusual manner, the author has proven her knowledge of her culture as well as efficiency over her art.
Overall, I loved the novel an will eagerly anticipate more from this author- a sui generis in the sea of contemporary romance!

Abby, The Poor American Working Girl
Edmund, The Rich Lord Issued A Proclamation In His Father's Will
Reality Television Show To Find A Bride
Is Romance In The Air? Let The Eliminations Begin!
A 5 Star+ Emotion Filled Read That Is Sweet and Romantic
Debut Novel By A Talented New Author
STORY LINE:
Lord Edmund Rushwood, playboy, rich and entitled, has received marching orders from his father's will. Find a rich noble blooded bride in three months or lose his wealth and position. To say he was flabbergasted would be an understatement.
"Born rich ad privileged, he had no idea what it was like not to drink champagne every night or have a butler wait on his every whim."
His mother's friend suggests America for his hunt. After meeting Abby Foster, thru Abby's arch-enemy, the attraction was fast and mutual. However, Abby had a way of putting his Lordship in his place.
"If you're expecting me to curtsy or something, it's not going to happen."
Abby, unfortunately, is not rich, noble blooded, or entitled, she is a poor average working class girl and student. Trying to keep her father's legacy from going under, keep her almost stepmother and part owner from draining the coffers of what little there was to drain, and finish her classes, Abby is overwhelmed.
We also have Abby's strange friend and supporter, Raify D'Gothomer, an eccentric little old lady, who appearances and disappears after imparting strange words of wisdom and wit.
Edmund and Abby are persuaded by hook or crook to appear on the Love Match Reality Television show billed as Lord Bachelor. Edmund has 9 contestants from noble, privileged and monied backgrounds to vet and then there is Abby, the poor working class all American girl.
Come along for the ride as the Lord and the poor American's journey through the twists and turns from antagonist beginnings to romance.
CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT:
Ms. Bailey's character development was well done as we view Lord Edmund from a hedonistic playboy to a mature man who is witty, caring, funny, and sure of himself and his life. The road Edmund and Abby journeys is anything but smooth; it is rocky indeed.
"He sauntered into the hallway where a black book bag flew out of nowhere, smacking him square in the forehead. .......Am I bleeding? Abby sent him an exaggerated smile. One could only hope."
Abby's character is strong and independent with firm ideas and ideals; she is also insecure romantically as she has been hurt in the past. She feels secure in the world her deceased parents had built for her in the record shop and her small apartment. Lordly titles do not impress Abby; she is a product of working class America. Ms Bailey's development of Abby's character to a whole person, knowing her worth, and what she wanted in life was amazing. It was a long journey well worth the wait.
Ms. Bailey infused humor in this wonderfully sweet story. I found myself laughing at the antics of Abby and Edmund.
The inclusion of Raify in to the book was inspired as it added another twist to this story which I will not reveal. I am biting at the bit to include a quote, but it would reveal too much. No spoilers here!
The plot of the story was fun and a different take as I thought of several fairy tales combined. Cinderella and The Prince and The Pauper kept popping into my head as I was reading. I enjoyed this book immensely.
The pacing was on target and kept my interest from the first page. I must admit I am fascinated with anything Lordly or Royal. Doesn't every girl dream of Prince Charming. or in this case not so charming, sweeping her off her feet? This book was right up my alley.
Ms. Bailey's writing style appealed to me, she produced a clear easy read full of fun, witty remarks, and romance. The sexual tension and attraction sizzled between Edmund and Abbey in their cat and mouse game. Ms. Bailey expertly wove this tale from the first page to the last.
Will the Lord get his Lady and live happily ever after? Or will he choice position and money over his heart. Sorry, you will have to read this wonderful story to find out.
RECOMMENDATION: 5 Stars+
I loved this novel. Actually 5 stars were not enough. I recommend this novel for young adult to adults due to sexual language, implied sex, and a love scene between Abby and Edmund. This novel will appeal to anyone that likes romance with humor that is well plotted and paced with an intriguing story line. I would not hesitate to buy Ms. Bailey's next novel. I look forward to more works by this talented author. Kudos Ms. Bailey for a fine work.
